Another year & are we there yet?

Summer was long and productive and now we lay fallow which give us a little more time to UPDATE THE BLOG!!! (Guess what my New Year’s resolution begins with? 🙂 ) As we look (squint) forward hoping to find light at the end of a tunnel, we begin trying to wrap up what has been by far the biggest and most overlooked challenge: PLUMBING.

Plumbing is weird and visceral. It’s a bit like working on your own innards (just trying to avoid leaks and blockage 💩.) We decided to leave the majority of our plumbing exposed to be able to access things more easily as well as ensuring a fool-proof way of preventing things from freezing up (I guess that would be the third thing to keep in mind.)

The majority of what you see here will be located under the kitchen sink where there is access to the outlet to power the pump for our outside supply tank (more on that later), a pressure regulator and accumulator (purchased from RV supply store), as well as an inlet for city water.

Here’s me doing my best at explaining our schematics:

The Pex tubing is surprisingly easy to work with once you decide how you’re going to route things. My advice would be to lay everything out and clamp as many of those rings as you can while everything lays flat before installing things in place. Especially when you see where our on-demand water heater is located I think demonstrates how things can get pretty tight, especially when building tiny (note the fine taste in beer.)

So far we’re only supplying to our on-demand water heater, then hot and cold to the kitchen sink and finally up through the cavities in the steel arches to the bathroom, including perhaps the most ridiculously oversized tub for a tiny house…more on that in the next post!
